Acting opportunity with strong potential to become long-term or permanent

An established community-based NFP is seeking an Acting Team Leader to support a team of case workers assisting individuals and families experiencing complex social challenges. This role is based in Wollongong.

This role would suit an experienced Team Leader who can hit the ground running. While initially offered in an acting capacity, there is strong potential for the role to become permanent.

About the Role
The Team Leader will provide day-to-day leadership, practice guidance and support to a team of case workers delivering community-based recovery services.

The role balances team leadership with a small client caseload, often involving higher complexity matters, and acts as a key escalation point for risk and complex case management.

Working closely with senior leadership, the position supports trauma-informed, recovery orientated, client-centred and strengths-based service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and support to a team of case workers
  • Offer practice guidance, coaching and reflective support to staff managing complex cases
  • Maintain a small client caseload, primarily involving complex or escalated matters
  • Act as an escalation point for risk management, safeguarding and crisis incidents
  • Support staff with case planning, risk assessment and service delivery
  • Promote trauma-informed and strengths-based practice across the team
  • Contribute to service delivery oversight, quality improvement and reporting
  • Foster a collaborative, supportive and psychologically safe team environment
  • Champion recovery-oriented practice while supporting responses to complex needs and incidental crisis situations
About You
We are keen to speak with professionals who bring experience from sectors such as:
  • Child, Youth and Family Services
  • Domestic and Family Violence (DFSV)
  • Mental Health and AOD
  • Community services supporting individuals with complex needs
Skills and Experience
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology or a related discipline or extensive relevant experience.
  • If relevant, eligibility for registration or membership with the relevant professional body (e.g. AHPRA, AASW, PACFA or ACA)
  • Extensive experience in case management within complex social or community service settings
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice frameworks
  • Experience supporting individuals or families experiencing complex needs and risk, including DFSV
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, guide and lead staff
  • Confidence managing complex cases and providing practice escalation
  • Strong communication, leadership and decision-making skills
