We are seeking an Aboriginal Identified Domestic & Family Violence Specialist Worker to join a Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (WDVCAS) supporting Aboriginal women and children experiencing domestic and family violence.
This role combines frontline support with strong community engagement and outreach, working alongside Aboriginal communities to strengthen access to safety planning, advocacy and court support.
The Role
This position works within a specialist domestic and family violence service supporting women referred through police, courts and community services.
Alongside direct client work, the role has a strong focus on community engagement, outreach and building trust with Aboriginal communities, ensuring services are accessible and culturally responsive.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting risk assessments and safety planning with women experiencing domestic and family violence
- Providing trauma-informed advocacy and support, including assistance with AVO processes and court support
- Liaising with key stakeholders including police, courts, legal services and community organisations
- Coordinating referrals and connecting women with housing, legal and community supports
- Participating in coordinated safety responses for women assessed at serious threat
- Building relationships with local Aboriginal communities and services to strengthen access to support
- Attending and engaging with community events, networks and initiatives to promote service awareness
- Providing cultural advice and guidance to ensure services are relevant and responsive to Aboriginal women and children
About You
To be successful in this role you will bring:
- Strong experience working in the domestic and family violence sector
- Experience conducting risk assessments and safety planning
- Strong understanding of the criminal justice response to domestic and family violence
- Demonstrated ability to engage respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal communities
- Strong networking, advocacy and relationship-building skills
- A trauma-informed and culturally respectful approach to working with women and families in crisis
